The real utility of stretching the Saddamite neck is the salutary effect that it will hopefully have on Boy Assad and various other jihadist enablers. The lesson for them is that regardless of what chaos and bloodshed may follow, if you provoke us enough, you personally will be on the gibbet. Make no mistake, they're watching.

See, there you go again, Mr. Firmin. You are missing the point entirely. None of the current crop is going to be impressed by gibbeting Saddam; he was already emasculated in 1991. And as if that wasn't enough the US pointlessly overthrew him in 2003, leading, as we know, to the current clusterfuck.
What would make sense at this point, indeed perhaps the ONLY thing that would make sense at this point, would be to bring a sanitized and rehabilitated Saddam back to power. Think about it; he is the only one who literally knows where all the bodies are buried; he unequivocally knows how to deal with the Shi'as. True, the US would have to keep him off the back of our new friends the Kurds, but that shouldn't be so difficult; and think about how righteously pissed off it would make the Iranians! Yes, he would still be a son-of-a-bitch, but he would be OUR son-of-a-bitch...
