And what about YOU?

For all those who criticised the printing, posting and dissemination of the Mohammad cartoons, two questions:

1. How much are you, personally, prepared to do to accomodate Islamic sensibilities? Think about it before you answer. A lot of things you, personally, like to do, eat, drink, read, say, wear and think sorely offend Muslims.

2. Would you, personally, sign your name to a caricature of Jesus, Buddha, Mary or Krishna and post it where it would be certain to be seen? Now, what about Mohammed?

There are both Muslims and Jews working at this campus. Although dogs are not allowed, there is nothing on the signs about pigs. I think I would feel fine about bringing my pig to school, but I would probably avoid taking it to the offices of my Muslim and Jewish colleagues for a visit. I am quite sure i would stop short of forcing them at gunpoint to kiss my pig even though it is quite attractive. If either (or a Christian or godless sympathizer) objected to me bringing my pig to campus because it might, even if unseen, offend someone, I believe I would feel comfortable telling them to go... get a life.

To what end? Just to annoy and outrage as was the case in Denmark? Guess not, though I might have when I was 14. As artistic expression, if I could come up with one? No problem, though I don't see that happening. However, I do own an impressive collection of bobble-head Jesus statues, rubber Buddhas holding cell-phones, cartoon Ganeshas, and Madonnas of questionable virtue. I don't hide this collection, even when the Pope comes to visit with his friend the head of the local Santaria church...

Do I pass? What absurdity. Here is a better question: Would you, in this country, put on a t-shirt with a classic 30's-era German anti-semitic cartoon of the sort "Why would God choose the rats?" on it and walk down to the very large and beautiful Jewish community center here on a Saturday morning and demand entry? Gee, why not? Intimidated by the troglodytic Jewish mindset? Afraid that some former Mossad heavy might smash your head in a way that made it look like you did it to yourself?

You are defending the indefensible with the weak ammunition you have to hand, and a noble effort it is, but please, quit embarrassing the folks up there on Cold Mountain. They deserve better...

I suppose there's a good reason why anonymous is just that. Anon knows perfectly well what I'm talking about. Who among the accomodationists or apologists is prepared to give up the public consumption of alcohol, require women to cover themselves neck to ankle, or go back into the closet...and that's just to concern ourselves with most moderate of Islamist demands)?

No I wouldn't wear such a t-shirt nor advise anyone else to do so, unless someone were to try and intimidate me and everyone else into not doing so. It would then be a positive duty to wear it. Further, if there were riots in the streets over these t-shirts and I owned a newspaper, I would surely print an image of said t-shirt to accompany my story.

Finally, I ask again, why is it that those who insist on making the public display and public acceptance of their lifestyle an issue of human rights at all times and in all places regardless of what offense is caused, are suddenly so reticent where Islamists sensibilities are concerned. Just a coincidence, I'm sure.

WELL, there it is in a nutshell. The fact is that this inhibition is ALREADY in place and has been for years. Mr Firmin is merely pretending he does not
know this. Too bad that we can't get the right to bear the strength of their own convictions. Since they are the ones impugning the rectitude of the
left, let them go first. If they dare, which they do not... I, for one, am not surprised.
