There is little better metaphor than this of the complete disconnect between the American left in general, the Democratic Party and Barack Obama on the won hand and the American people. Tito the Builder speaks truth to the propaganda arm of the Obama campaign:
“I support McCain, but I’ve come to face you guys because I’m disgusted with you guys,” he said. “Why the hell are you going after Joe the Plumber? Joe the Plumber has an idea. He has a future. He wants to be something else. Why is that wrong? Everything is possible in America. I made it. Joe the Plumber could make it even better than me. . . . I was born in Colombia, but I was made in the U.S.A.”

Why the Pass?
Jonah Goldberg at the NRO asks, not unreasonably, why Obama gets off so easy compared with "the four white guys" who preceded him as teh Democrat's nominee. Goldberg is talking specifically about the criticism that Oboomboom is some kind of world citizen rather than an American, with a point of view centered somewhere between LA and Manhattan, rather somewhere between Prague and Paris. The GOP and much of the press raised the cosmopolitan issue with varying degrees of success about Dukakis, Clinton, Gore and Kerry.
The broader question though is the unprecedented free ride that Obama gets both from the opposing party and from the press on every issue that cuts against him. I'm prepared to wager that no candidate for head of government in any democratic country has ever been elected with so little scrutiny as has Obama.

The "Debate": Be Still My Beating Heart.
Will either of these two zombies be moved off their stump speeches?
Schieffer: subject is domstic policy (yawn: Obbi repeats welfare promise, McC will try to out-welfare him).
I hope McC calls Obbi on the tax breaks. They're what used to be called to welfare. I'll bet he doesn't.
McC goes first. Straight into stump speech. Fannie/Freddy. Will he name names? Frank, Dodd, Cox? No. Of course not. Back to the mortgage buyout. Yawn. Nothing new.
Obbi-wan: Straight into the stump speech. I wonder if there's anything on Animal Planet.
McC: Going after Obbi's exchange with the plumber in Ohio. McC is right, but just not making the case. He's doing the Palin thing..talking strtaight to the camera.
Obbi: Doesn't answer. No one will care. There he goes on the 95%. If McC doesn't jump on this he deserves to lose. Obbi is flat out lying about what he said to the plumber. Come on...it was only a couple of days ago...go to the video. I saw it myself.
Mc C: A little more animated. Joe the Plumber, Bob the Builder. Can we spend it, yes we can!
Obbi: First to mention Warren Buffett. Too early in my time zone to drink, but here's a virtual shot.
McC: Americans pay second highest taxes in the industrialised countries. Why raise them more?
Schiffer: What will you cut?
Obbi: doesn't answer, Schieffer dings him. Obbi says give me a minute. Line by line, page by page, cut programs that don't work. Uh-huh. We've never heard that before. Note to candidates: There is no such thing as a line item veto. Still no answer. I gotta see a man about a horse.
McC: I'll veto EVERY earmark. Every one? Come on.
Obbi: Still nothing specific. Big deficit, running against W. Here we go again.
McC: Finally calls Obbu on it. "If you wanted to run against President Bush, you should have run four years ago." Good line, wish he'd used it before.
Obbi is telling some outrageous porkies. "I'm for clean coal." "I opposed the trial lawyers on tort reform" "I opposed the teachers' unions on charter schools." None of that is true.
Leadership. Schiffer opens the door for McC to bring up Ayers/Wright/ACORN.
McC: Obama wouldn't face me early. Regret negative aspects. Skips Ayers, attacks John Lewis. Will Obbi repudiate JL? Goes after Obbi's flip-flops.
Obbo: "Nyah, nyah, I can't heeaaarrr you." Running against Bush again. Didn't repudiate Lewis. Nada.
McC: Sounds like he had his coffee this morning. No repudiation of Lewis, Obbi?
Obbi" I can't believe the Obbo gets away with calling black/white (was that racist?). He completely denies that Lewis was out of line. He's not going to talk about it. OK, Obbi himself has raised Ayers...
McC: He's pretty good now. Pissed off without getting murder in his eye.
Obbi: Can we change the subject please? What a spineless wanker this guy is.
McC: Finally. Ayers an "old washed-up terrorist" good combination of contempt and seriousness. Quotes Hillary.
Obbi: Talks about Ayers. I was eight years old. Barely no the guy.
Yeah, yeah and I wasn't born when Hitler was around, so can I be a Nazi?
Obbi: Acorn has nothing to do with us. Oh yeah? How about that quarter-mil.
Obbi is very clearly not happy talking about this. Looks shifty for the first time in the campaign.
Why Biden is better than Palin?
Obbi: Because he agrees with me. Right.

Obama Cult of Personality Watch 2
Dear Leader wannabe's embryonic cult of personality contiues to develop aided by a compliant media, useful idiots in the conservative camp and a generation of Americans stupified by television and indoctrinated by the academy. First it was Camp Obama, then the adoring German masses, then the obvious and profound contempt for democracy, then the Obama brownshorts (oops, that's brownshirts) at Acorn. Now he's in a middle school literature textbook. Fifteen pages. I'll bet Shakespeare doesn't rate that. He and his bitter half could end up as our own Nicolae and Elena Ceucescu.

Pricing Socialism Into the Markets.
Post Hoc, Ergo Propter Hoc. To assume that because B follows A that A therefore caused B is a logical fallacy. But logic does not of rule out a causal relationship between A and B, only that such a a relationship must be demonstrated and not assumed.
Is anyone out there asking whether the markets are tanking not in spite of the efforts of various governments, but because of those efforts? Is it not possible, likely even, that the markets are pricing in the dead weight of government "oversight"? Is it not possible, likely even, that the financial markets, which represent the sum of tens of billions of individual self-interested decisions, are voting no-confidence in the ability of governments to "manage" the economy? Is it not possible that the market has weighed and counted the real costs of relying on the goodwill and competence of the State and reacted accordingly? Mene, mene, tekel upharsin.
Just asking.

I See Dead People, oops those are Racists.
Michelle Malkin in a syndicated piece at NRO has a hysterical send up of the race card playing on behalf of BHO. It's morphed into self parody.
Wearing white - racist. Referring to Obbi as "that one"-racist, associating Obama with WIlliam Ayers - racist, Talking about "hockey moms" - racist. Making reference to Odumbo's "career" as a community organizer-racist. By these standards of course not only is all criticism of the Obamessiah racist, but merely disagreeing with The One marks the forehead with a scarlet R.

McCain-Obama "Debate"
And here they come. McCain in his red tie, Obama in his blue. Was that prearranged? If McCain doesn't find a way to nail Obbi on his idiotic economic plans, he deserves to lose.
First question on the economy. Obama won the coin toss. Good sign, BHO is running against Bush. Calling for oversight, cracking down on CEO's. The question was how to get the economy up and running quickly. Obbi says middle class tax cut, fix this, fix that, no specifics,. It's his stump speech.
McC.: Doing his town hall thing walks right over to the crowd. Stop sending money to OPEC. Getting specific. RTC solution purchase mortgages directly, write down to positive equity. Not my preferred choice...sounds a little lame really.
Brokaw: Who will be your Secretary of Treasury? They aren't going to answer that and it's a waste of time. McC mentions Warren Buffett (Christ almighty), Obbi goes along he likes WB too. Yeah, yeah.
Q2: Bailout. McC needs to sound a lot more confident. Here he goes after Fannie & Freddie. Referes to "Obama & his cronies". Name names, will ya? "Some members of Congress". Follow up. Obbi, Dodd, Frank,....
BHO: Obbi-= crdit crunch still exists. He dodges. He's still running against W. He says he warned about the problem a year ago. Oops. Screw up. Pointing out that McC's bill didn't pass. That's the point, fool. Will McC jump on that?
Obbi on followup: back to his stump speech. Talking about "modernizing" regulation? Huh?
McC: Back to the buy-out mortgage idea. Now back to the stump speech. We're No. 1 rah, rah, rah.
Q3: How can we trust you with with our money? Obbi takes out after W again. Loser's game. Here he goes, government spends too much money and I'm going to spend more. Then he says he's going to cut spending. Which is it?
McC: He's trying to make Obbi count it up. This isn't going to change anybody's mind. We all know BHO is a big spender. Problem is that ALL of you are big spenders. If you don't see any reason to vote for McC, you won't see one now either. McC pointing out that the 700B we send to OPEC is exactly enough to cover the Bailout. Drill, gas, wind, solar, ....
Obbi-More government money to subsidise energy research. McC needs to call him on the spend more/spend cut paradox. Sheez, he's even using McC's "line by line" speech. Says McC will give money to oil companies. So who's going to get Obbi's subsidy? Ben & Jerry's?
Thirty minutes in. Neither of these guys has gone beyond the same script they've been on for a year.
Obbi-we're going to bring car manufacturing back to America. OK, but why? I'm going to double the Peace Corps. Maybe the Peace Corps volunteers could work in the auto plants. Yawn.
Is there any point to this? It's just the same old, same old. I'll be back if either of them says anything new.
McC: Nothing new. Climate change kool-aid time. McC goes nuclear. Finally. He sounds like Obbi, we can do it, yes we can.
Obbi: This (climate change) is one of the biggest challenges of our time. He confuses the invention of the computer with the development of the Internet. At least he didn't give credit to Algore. I'll subsidise a "new green engine." Yeah, yeah, how about a phaser gun and transporter booth while we're at it.
Brokaw is pathetic. Send him back to Old Hacks' Home.
Now McC is running against, I kid you not, "Bush and Cheney". Drill here, drill now.

Black Box
I've put that little Black Box widget on the sidebar. I encourage you to play around with it. It can be addictive. I'm curious as to others' results. Almost none of the blogs I land at are written by men. I find myself delivered to an extraordinary number of blogs by women writers--all sorts of them, romance, mystery, sci-fi,soft porn, poetry, and one poor woman who has those pictures of the ghastly Fabio on all her books. There also seem to be a lot of blogs by women who are suffereing from one sort of chronic, perhaps terminal, disease or another. Is this a reflection of the blogger population? Just the ones who have the Black Box widget?

Once is an Accident, Twice is a Coincidence. Three Times Looks Like ...
Carelessness? Closer to stupidity, I'd say. Is there a major country anywhere run by such a collection of clowns, crooks, and losers as is the United States? The House passes the Soviet Economy Emulation Act of 2008 and the market, which had been up nearly 4 per cent, promptly tanks. In the words of the Financial Times:
Reaction on Wall Street turned increasingly negative after the vote. The S&P 500 – which rose as much as 3.6 per cent ahead of the decision – fell 1.4 per cent, closing below its level on Monday after the House voted against the bill.

Palin-Biden Debate
Palin looks cool and collected. Biden looks vaguely Presidential in a stern white-bread kind of way, but tired and has that weird Botox face. The eyelid job makes him like a white guy playing Fu Manchu.
McCain has made Palin drink the climate change kool-aid. It's clear she doesn't believe it and it made her sound hesitant on an easy environment question.
Finally she skewers JB on climate change...it's burn carbon, split atoms or turn out the lights.
She sounds much less hesitant now.
He's going for same-sex marriage. That'll get you the votes of all those people who were going to vote for you anywhere. Palin gives a Libertarian/Federalist answer. She's good.
Biden flips. Now it's no.
On to foreign policy. Iraq. She's nailing BHO using Biden's vote, she sounds like she's done her homework this time. Biden is talking nonsense...trying to make McC. look like he didn't support the troops is a lost cause. She nailed him, she's got the facts, there's just no way for Biden to spin Obama's opposition to the surge.
He's still trying....no one is going to believe it..now he's running against Cheney.
Pakistan/Iran: why does Biden get the first shot at every question but one so far...oh. I forgot Ifill has a financial stake in an Obama win. Biden (and BHO) have a point about the locus of the problem being in Pakistan.
Palin: party line on Iran..cannot be allowed nukes...quoting Ahmadi-Nejed...pulling out Obama's meeting quote. She's holding her own. WIll JB repeat the Kissinger lie? Obbi got taken to the woodshed on that.
JB: denies Obbi said anything of the sort. Claims A'jad not in control of Iranian security. He'll be surprised to hear that. JB is sputtering a bit, something about McC. refusing to talk to Spain.
Palin: backs up Israel, embassy in Jerusalem (yeah, right), never again.
Biden: running against Bush again. They'll never learn.
Palin: she's got him. Why are looking back, because you can't look forward. She just smiled and pointed out that Bush and Cheney aren't running.
Biden: still doing it, this is what Palin was waiting for, as long he's running against W, he's circling the drain.
Palin: on nukes. Didn't quite answer the question (when if ever should nukes be used) but showed she understands what deterrence is. She should have said that nukes are a last resort against an existential threat to the national security of the United states.
Biden: talked about Afghanistan. Also didn't answer the question.
Palin: good rebuttal. She's clearly been studying.
I expected a lot worse and I expected better of Biden. He's spent at least half his time complaining about Bush.

As I said....
Senate votes to nationalize the banking system with a pork-laden,corrupt monstrosity and the market promptly plunges nearly 400 points.
1 October 2008
Who'd Have thought?
The Nixon, er Bush, administration attempts to extend government control of the economy to European levels, and the markets tank. The House of Representatives then refuses to Sovietize the entire US financial system, and the markets recover 500 points. Extra points for connecting the dots.

News of the Bleeding Obvious.
This is a great example of how the chattering classes just don't understand that most people do not hold the same set of opinions as the cultural scumariat who dominate the media and academia.
Ummm, could it be because Bush isn't running? Just a thought.
Some political analysts are puzzled that Obama is not doing better, given that Republican President George W. Bush is unpopular and the economy is deteriorating.
"If you look at the raw partisan numbers, it might suggest that Senator Obama is not doing quite as well as you would think," said Andrew Dowdle, professor of politics at the University of Arkansas.
Ummm, could it be because Bush isn't running? Just a thought.
B.Hussein Obama in His Own Words.
As I understand it, this puts the burden on the attending physician who has determined, since they were performing this procedure, that, in fact, this is a nonviable fetus; that if that fetus, or child - however way you want to describe it - is now outside the mother's womb and the doctor continues to think that it's nonviable but there's, let's say, movement or some indication that, in fact, they're not just coming out limp and dead, that, in fact, they would then have to call a second physician to monitor and check off and make sure that this is not a live child that could be saved.
Whatever ones opinion on abortion, this is just weird and creepy. Note the way he refers to the baby as "it" and "this". BHO's little speech captures perfectly the profound anti-humanist bent of the post-modern left.
13 August 2008
Say Goodnight, Nancy.
When the Speaker of the House can't handle questions from a senile old hack like Larry King, then it's time to move back to San Francisco and check into rehab.
Check out some of these:
KING: Before we talk about some other things, let's get right to the major story of the day.
What's your read on Russia/Georgia?
REP. NANCY PELOSI (D-CA), SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE: Well, everyone is speaking with one voice on the subject -- Democrats, Republicans, the Congress, the president -- that Russia must withdraw from Georgia. Russia's -- Georgia's borders must be protected -- respected and that we must have a conversation -- a diplomatic conversation in terms of NATO -- I mean more than a conversation -- to resolve the issues there.
Firmin: Oooh, Vlad the Impaler must be quaking in his jackboots. Nan is threatening SOMETHING MORE THAN A CONVERSATION
KING: But if they keep up this activity, do we have to, frankly, do something in the nature of returning the violence?
PELOSI: Well, I think we have to start first to try to get them to honor -- sign and honor a cease-fire, a truce. That's absolutely essential, because what the Russians did is really outside the circle of civilized behavior. You just don't roll your tanks and your airplanes into another country and expect people to sit back and say that's OK.
Firmin: If you're the Russians, that's exactly what you do, Nan. Look up Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Afghanistan for recent examples.
KING: Do you fear the possibility of American boys and girls going there?
PELOSI: I think we can start with the Europeans. This is a neighborhood thing for NATO. I think the NATO forces, if there's a need for peacekeepers, can contribute to those. We're doing a lot as far as NATO is concerned in Afghanistan. We wish they'd do more there. They can do more in Georgia.
Firmin: Boys and girls? Sounds like we're going send the 7th grade of Thomas Jefferson Primary. It's a neighbourhood thing after all. This is a 10 on the gibberish scale.
KING: So you don't see Americans being involved in this conflict?
PELOSI: Well, I would hope that it would be resolved, again, respecting the borders, honoring the truth and engaging in diplomatic -- a discussion on how to resolve the problems there.
Firmin: C'mon Nan, just admit it. You couldn't find Georgia on a map if it was tattooed on your butt. You don't have a clue what's going on.
Check out some of these:

PELOSI: Well, I would hope that it would be resolved, again, respecting the borders, honoring the truth and engaging in diplomatic -- a discussion on how to resolve the problems there.
Firmin: C'mon Nan, just admit it. You couldn't find Georgia on a map if it was tattooed on your butt. You don't have a clue what's going on.

Hillary Just Won't Go Away (I hope).
This is interesting. Hillary's folks are arguing that if John Edwards little fling had hit the media earlier, he would have been out of the race and a good part of his vote would have gone to Hillary. If the Hillites are correct, then she probably would've gotten the nomination instead of B. Hussein Obama. I wonder if anybody at Camp Obama had an inkling of this. Something else to create harmony and understanding at the Dem's convention.

B.Hussein Obama's Emerging World View
The cover of this week's Newsweek lists a story by breathless Obama cheerleader Fareed Zakaria called "Obama: An Emerging World View." This is someone who expects to move into the White House in six months. Hasn't he left it a little late in the day to be acquiring a world view? Has the MSM become so immersed in its role as the propaganda arm of the Obama campaign that they've become completely innured to irony?

Blinded by the Light
You have got to love this picture.
As usual, the Obamarama crowd is as politically and culturally tone deaf as the BHO himself. Intended to ridicule alleged right wing fears about The Obaman, the New Yorker instead skewers lefty stereotypes of conservatives. As meta-politics turned high comedy, it doesn't get any better. It's a little weird that the New Yorker was so out of tune with the zeitgeist, but I guess they were just blinded by the light.

The Meta-universe of Senator B. Hussein Obama
Has B. Hussein Obama ever said or done anything that he doesn't instantly regret and seek to undo? Does he, like Colonel Flagg, keep himself in a state of constant confusion so that he can never be forced to give a straight answer? Or does he live in some kind of discursive hyperspace where there are alternate Obamas living in alternate realities?

Obama Takes Us Monkey Fishing
Silent Running has an interesting take on the Odumbo birth certificate matter. I'm pretty sure that the Obamessiah was in fact born in a manger in Hawaii in 1961 just as he claims and that he has the birth certificate to prove it. The O's are just spinning this out in the hope they can get an O'Reilly or a Limbaugh to bite. Then they'll pull out the certificate and have a good laugh. Let's not go monkey fishing with Obama.
The Pot & The Kettle: Vodafone & Telecom
I read somewhere last year that some wag had said ...all New Zealanders hate Telecom and there's nothing they hate worse than the thought of giving them any more money for anything else. Add Vodafone to the list. When is the government going to open the mobile and broadband markets in this country and cut these gougers off at the knees.
The New Zealand consumer is getting raped by these people (Sky TV is another offender, but that's a tale for another day). We have the most expensive and worst broadband and mobile service on the planet because of the Vodacom duopoly.
Boycott the iPhone (which is no prize either...I've got one, I know). If you have to buy it, get it off the Internet or have a mate bring you one from Singapore or Europe.

Obama's "Communication" Problem
I'm not entirely sure what's going on with Odumbo. Is it that: 1) He just says whatever his advisors put in front of him without asking whether it blatantly contradicts something he said earlier or is plain stupid. 2) He's a liar on the order of the Clintons. 3) He just doesn't have any strong opinions about anything nor any sort of intellectual framework to his thinking. 4) He has early-onset Alzheimer's.
A) If it's #1, then it's back to Jimmy Carter and the White House Amateur Hour. The man is just too feckless and inexperienced to be President. Added to a political tin ear for anything outside the African-American/egghead/Malibu opinion universe, we have a man who is not ready for prime time. Give him a few gray hairs and rich(er) wife and we have John Kerry redux.
B) If it's #2, do we really want to go through another four or eight years of wondering whether the President's worldview has any relationship at all with objective reality? Big O's lies are of a different sort than Clinton's. Bubba tried to lawyer his way out of the truth without getting caught telling direct falsehoods. He wasn't very good at it, but he tried. BHO on the other hand is more the post-modernist. His words mean just what he intends them to mean and nothing else. Look at his Smear Fighting page and his explanation of the flag pin controversy. Essentially, he just says it never happened.
C) If it's number 3, see A) above.
D) If it's number 4, maybe he'll put me on his web site.

Complete Intellectual Collapse
The insanity of the Bush administration's so-called Korea policy has reached the point of, as John Bolton so aptly put it, "total intellectual collapse. North Korea handed over to the Chinese a piece of paper that might has well have been a hold-up note. They admitted to all the stuff we already know about and don't really care about and completely left out any mention of the plutonium bombs and uranium enrichment program. Anyone with eyes or ears has long known that the State Department prefers any deal to no deal, but there is now the real possibility that history will one day judge Christopher Hill, Condoleeza Rice and the President to have been complicit in the destruction of an American or Japanese city by a North Korean nuclear weapon.
Here's Hill before the agreement:"This idea that we would ignore the most contentious items and take them up later is ridiculous. I don’t believe in ‘carve outs’ and even if I did (which I don’t) how in the world would this work in practical terms? Do you really think we could make concessions on the basis of an incomplete declaration, then somehow we would be able to return to the contentious issues AFTER – AFTER!!!??? — giving away all our leverage? Why? I can tell you this stupidity has never been under consideration by anyone who is part of the process or truly close to the process."
In the event of course, the "declaration" did leave out all of the "most contentious" problems. Here's Hill after the agreement:“you’re looking at a partially finished product here and we’ve got to finish the job.” “Obviously, we would like to deal with things in one fell swoop, but sometimes,” Hill told an audience at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington on July 1, “you have to kind of do things on an incremental basis… I would draw your attention to the fact that a year ago they were producing plutonium and not only are they not producing plutonium, but they can’t produce plutonium because the thing is disabled.” That's hardly the point. They may or may not be able to produce plutonium now, but they already enough for at least one and maybe as many as a dozen low yield bombs. They're also continuing to enrich uranium. That was omitted from the declaration--just an oversight, I'm sure.
There are only two possibilities here. Either Hill is a liar on the order of Bill Clinton, or he was completely duped by Rice and the President. In either case he should resign.

Warmenists vs The Poor, III
I thought I remembered this story from the London Times awhile back. It seems that if you're rich enough, you can assuage your guilt over your carbon crimes by sending a poor Indian peasant from the 21st Century back to the tecnhnology of the Bronze Age.
As the Times story (from 2007) puts it:
"Somewhere in the Indian countryside, a farmer is about to repay Mr Cameron’s debt to the planet. Climate Care’s latest enterprise is to provide “treadle pumps” to poor rural families so they can get water on to their land without using diesel power. The pumps are worked by stepping on pedals. If a peasant treads for two hours a day, it will take at least three years to offset the CO2 from Mr Cameron’s return flight to India"
So once that treadle pump is in place, who you do think is going to provide the muscle power? No, not Big Al Gore, although he could use the exercise. It will be the children who will in all liklihood be taken out of school to do the work.
Climate Care, an arm of JP Morgan's environmental markets group is the benevolent gang behind the scheme to let Third World peasants do the heavy lifting so green robed hypocrites can keep flying around to conferences.

Warmenists vs. The Poor, II
As I noted yesterday, the direct diversion of food crops into biofuel production and the change in cultivation from plants for food to plants for fuel will inevitably decrease the amount of food available in the market, raise prices and push the marginal poor right over into starvation. This Wall Street Journal story from Japan is an apt example. The farmer is being subsidized to grow a variety of rice suitable for conversion into ethanol instead of the food rice he used to grow. This wouldn't happen without subsidies. I don't know how ecofanatics sleep at night. Maybe they'll send some starvation offsets to Manila or Jakarta.

Fitna
Hmmm. I just watched Geert Wilder's film on Islam, Fitna. (It's posted at Pat Dollard's site.) I deliberately waited 3 months to watch it, as distance lends detachment. I see absolutely nothing controversial about this at all. Islamic fascism in its own words. Wilder's comments are a few seconds at the very end. Yeah, yeah, I know. You can take snippets of various extreme Christian preachers or ultra-Zionist rabbis and make a similar flick about Christianity or Judaism.
The difference of course is that the rest of Islam is either too cowed to disown the freaks in their midst, too ignorant to know how sick they are, or they understand perfectly what's going on and agree with it. Christians and Jews on the other hand generally fall all over themselves disowning anybody who's the slightest bit non-PC. Even Odumbo threw his own pastor to the mob when Jeremiah's opinions got a little too weird for the punters.

Warmenists vs. The Poor Part I
As anyone in an undergraduate economics class could tell you the fuel market and food markets were essentially separate. Rises in oil price had only an indirect marginal effect on the price of food through fuel and fertilizer costs. Climate fanatics however have suceeded in linking the two directly by enlisting Big Agriculture and Big Government in forcing biofuel mandates on the world. Not only are food crops like palm oil and soybeans now diverted directly to fuel production, agricultural land is diverted to the production of fuel crops rather than food crops. If you're growing corn for ethanol, you plant high sugar varieties, if you're growing for food, you want high protein. Less wheat, more corn, and so on. None of this could have happened without the perverse incentives of government subsidies. Congratulations for joining at the hip two groups who couldn't care less about the poor--climate fundmentalists and agribusiness.

Just When I Was About to Go Home
Just when I was considering abandoning this blog, Barack Obama and his whining wife get the Democratic nomination. If he gets elected, we are doomed. He's a tool of the Soros hypocrites and the PC brigade, he associates with racists and terrorists, and, I have to say, in a colorblind society, he wouldn't have gotten the nomination. As the few readers who visit know, I have no brief for Billary. But if she had gotten 90% of the white vote the way BO got 90% of the black vote, the cries of racism would still be echoing. If John McCain's pastor had said what Jeremiah Wright said, McCain could go home now.
He has a complete pass from the media, no one is going to go looking under the slimey rocks of Chicago politics, no one calls him on his contradictions and his airy-fairy pronouncements. Soooo, to arms. Let us deconstruct BO and his nonsense and send him to McGovernland.

A Tear in the Fabric
Some events are big enough to rend the global zeitgeist. Some are immediately obvious like the Holocaust, some, like 9/11 only become apparent because of the later effects. What they have in common is that such events somehow change the matrix in which we all live. That little chill you felt, the momentary flickering of your monitor, the noise on your iPod that wasn't there before, the weird dreams you keep having. Something has changed.
I think the Sichuan earthquake is such an event. Look at Wen Jiabao. You don't get to where he is by having a soft heart, but the worry on his face is real. He knows, and you can bet they know all over China, that soon enough the grief and fear will turn to anger. On a day not far off, 80 million people in Sichuan will start looking for someone to blame. They won't rail at God..this is an atheist society. They will look at the only source of power in the land...the Party...and they will want some answers.

Democracy for all: except when it's inconvenient for Washington.
Secretary of State Rice repeats the same tired, mendacious and hypocritical line on Taiwan that successive administrations, their lips planted firmly on Beijing's ass, have trotted out for 30 years. Taiwan wants UN membership. China in it's annual display of truculent revanchism, says no. Washington, in its annual display of spineless pandering says that Taiwan should not hold a referendum on the issue. Let's see, on the one side we have a free market democracy with an unbroken record of friendship for the United States, the freest press in Asia, and a strategically important geographic position. On the other hand we have a one party Communist police state with an unbroken history of hostility to American interests, a state engaged in aggressive espionage, a nuclear weapons buildup and economic warfare. So which side does Washington come down on? American policy toward Taiwan is a disgrace.

Hillary's Summer Job
Does anyone believe this? I'm sure my fellow bloggers in the VRWC will be all over this. You just know she's lying.
"Middle class in her youth, Hillary Rodham was already on a promising track when she spent the summer of 1969 working her way across Alaska. The year before, her commencement speech at Wellesley College in defense of war protesters was such a hit she was featured in Life magazine.
In Alaska, she washed dishes in Mount McKinley National Park, the better of two brief menial jobs that financed her travels. "My worst job was sliming fish in a fish cannery in Valdez," she said without hesitation.
The Democratic New York senator elaborated on this in her memoirs: standing in bloody water in knee-high boots on a pier removing salmon guts with a spoon; supervisors yelling when she didn't slime fast enough; switching to the packing line where she reported spoiled fish to the boss, who soon fired her."

Why We Still Have Kings.
Because the King can tell a pig-eyed moron of a military dictator to shut the fuck up, that's why. The last king of Egypt once said, "At the end of the world, there will still be five kings...the king of spades, the king of clubs, the king of hearts, the king of diamonds, and the king of England. To that list, I add, or perhaps substitute, the king of Spain. Unlike the degenerate Windsors, the Bourbons seem to have maintained some dignity. Perhaps it was the long years of fascism, but somehow the Spanish royal house has retained its...majesty. Can anyone imagine Charles telling Boy Assad or Robert Mugabe to shut up? Long live Juan Carlos el Rey de Espana por gracia del Dios. Perhaps it's time to begin a quiet search for a surviving heir of the Stuarts or the Plantagenets.

Europe wakes, but too late?
In Switzerland of all places, Europe begins to awake to the nature of Islam as an expressly political enterprise. Facile distinctions between "political Islam" and "Islamofascism" and "moderate Islam" are exposed as useless. I'm reminded of the academics of the 60s and 70s who kept trying to parse the difference between Castroism, Maoism and Stalinism. There is no such thing as separation of mosque and state, there is no non-political Islam. Indeed, Islam admits of no politics..all human relations are religious, there is no difference to be found between ideology and religion. There are no doubt Muslims who would have it otherwise, but they speak out on pain of apostasy and death. Sarkozy knows it, Blair knows it, Howard knows it, and the Swiss know it. Read about it here.

Hillary's Tattered Veil
Hillary Clinton's performance (and that's the right word for it) in the debate (and that's not the right word) between Democrat Party candidates reveals two important things.
1. Any of the likely Republican candidates will beat her in the general election like a red-headed step-child. This is related both to Hillary's personal failings and weaknesses and to the Democrat's institutional blindness. Taking last things first, it seems clear to everybody except the Dems themselves that running against George Bush isn't working. Memo to Howard Dean: Bush isn't running this time.
Next, the Party is far to the left of the electorate and are thus on track to another Nixon/McGovern scale defeat. They should change their name to the Lemming Party.
2. Hillary's fading aura has lasted this long only because her rivals are so feckless (Obama), dishonest (Edwards), stupid (Richardson) or weird (Kucinich) that they make Hillary look resolute, upright, brilliant and normal by comparison. Unfortunately, she is none of those things and it's becoming increasingly obvious to the public that she's none of those things. She can't give a straight answer to any question because she has no principles at all. Bill could pull that off with a grin and a little triangulation because he's a political genius. Hillary has neither Bill's political skills nor his intelligence and it shows. All she has is his donor list and his briefing book. That may be adequate to see off the likes of Odumbo, the sleazy ambulance chaser Edwards and the space cadet Kucinich, but Giuliani, McCain, Thompson or even Huckabee would eat her alive and spit out the bones.
3. None of her Demo rivals have called her on her long and dishonest career. From a make-work job at the Rose Law firm, to the 100 fold cattle futures deal, to Whitewater, to covering up Bill's sex addiction, to James Riady, Johnny Chung and Norman Hsu, from taking illegal campaign contributions to taking the White House furniture, Hillary's life is one of deep and pervasive mendacity and sleaze.
When the campaign goes to the southern states, all the Republicans have to do is replay that old Nightline interview where she talks about staying at home and baking cookies, her voice sliding into a parody of a Southern accent and dripping with contempt.
Come November, there'll be only two candidates and even the New York Times won't be able to hold its nose then.

No Limit Nannyism
There is truly no limit either to the reach of nannyism or to its hypocrisy. In Blighty, Nanny hopes to ban pregnant women from drinking so as not to harm the unborn child. That would be the same unborn child that may legally be dismembered, extracted from the womb and tossed into an incinerator. These people really do not have any capacity whatsoever for examining their own thoughts and actions.

Tame Iti and Terrorism?
I haven't commented yet on the raids and arrests around New Zealand and the cries of terrorism. That's because no one except the police and the suspects knows what really went on, and they aren't saying. A few things strike me immediately about this:
1. Terrorism? I can't find where anyone in the police actually said anything about terrorism or terrorists or the Suppression of Terrorism Act, nor where anyone in the police has referred to Tame Iti or anyone else as a terrorist. That seems to have come exclusively from the media and politicians responding to something that the police never said.
2. The "Just Minding Our Business" Defense. Sorry, but if you're stockpiling weapons, ammunition and Molotov cocktails, we want to know why.
3. Biculturalism Strikes Again: State mandated biculturalism has never worked anywhere that it's ever been tried and it won't work in New Zealand. Once a "culture" (and just how does one decide what is Maori culture and what is not?)is designated as separate and immiscible, the next logical step is cultural separatism followed by political separatism. That way lies Balkanization in the literal sense of the word.
4. Just how far do Maori want to wind back the clock? Again the logical progression of the grievance culture is that iwi start feuding about who did what to whom in pre-European days. Shall Ngai Tahu be required to pack up and move back north?
5. Pita Sharples (as opposed to many of his colleagues) rarely says anything grossly stupid. However saying that the arrests have set back race relations 100 years is nonsense. Why isn't it Tame Iti's seditious conduct that has set back race relations 100 years? Further, does Dr. Sharples mean to imply that Maori that get a pass on serious criminal conduct because of historical grievances? Again, that way lies real terrorism.

And the Nobel Prize for Hypocrisy goes to... Al Gore
So Al Gore is odds on to win the Nobel Peace Prize. How utterly consistent with the mendacious, trivial, banal and pretentious history of this "prize". Al the Hypocrite can join other fabulists like Rigoberta Menchu, thieves like Kofi Annan, terrorists like Yasser Arafat, retired terrorists like Menachem Begin, enablers and apologists for terrorists like David Trimble, military dictators like Anwar Sadat, war criminals like Le Duc Tho, and enablers of war criminals like Henry Kissinger. In all seriousness, I wouldn't be surprised if the next prize went to Osama bin Laden or Mahmud Ahamdinejad.
So here's to Al. I wonder if he can find room in his mansion for the...what do they give you? A gold plated mirror? I wonder if he'll take the Lear or fly first class? There is little better symptom of the decline of civilization than that this bloated, lying rent seeker has somehow become an "intellectual".
If there's one good thing to come out of this, it will be that Al's already etiolated moral sense, fueled by his swollen ego will lead him to challenge Billary for the presidency, thereby ensuring the final demise of the Democratic Party. Maybe he'll launch a 3rd party. I'd give him a Nobel for that.

Green Hypocrisy
AWOL Civilization's post on truth inspired me to another rant about green hypocrisy and the general tendency of the left to indulge in groupthink. Remember Dan Rather’s “wrong, but true” libel of the President? Dan-o has since veered off into full fledged conspiracy theory loondom, but the best exemplars are of course the environmental hypocrites.
Al Gore is of course the poster boy for environmental hypocrisy with his private jet, his 5000 square foot mansion, and his habit of purchasing carbon indulgences from a company owned by….Al Gore. Then there is the Learjet left who assuage their guilt over the latest trip to Exuma or Biarritz by getting peasants in India to give up their irrigation pumps for the treadmill. The hyperwealthy blowhards like Mike Bloomberg with his three palatial homes who are happy to send the price of food soaring by subsidising “biofuels”. Even W, in thrall to the fram lobby has signed on to this one. And the story is much older than that. Let millions of poor Africans die of malaria because DDT is banned, let Mexican peasants go without tortillas because the corn crop is diverted to biodiesel projects. We need to start calling these people on their disgusting hypocrisy, but their moral obtuseness will probably make that a futile effort.

MIT Department of Cluelessness
What an idiot.
Do people who are smart enough to get into MIT really wake one morning and say to themselves, "I think I'll wear a fake bomb to an airport and see what happens."
And not just any airport, but the Boston airport from whence Mohammad Atta and his band of Islamofascists launched their murder campaign. There are several possibilities here. She could be stupid, clueless, careless or another "Don't Tase Me Bro" jackass.
Maybe she was a diversity admission.

We Are All Lars Vilks

Yet another cheeky Scandinavian cartoonist has gotten up the snoots of Muslims. Lars Vilks' line drawings of Mohammad as a dog have resulted in a Rushdie-like price on his head from al-Qaeda thug Omar al-Baghdadi. As with the earlier Danish cartoons, it's our patriotic duty here on the mountain to publish these. Woof.

All Blacks v Portugal
Contrary to my original expectations, this game was pretty good. Although the final score was one sided, Os Lobos played with great spirit and were well supported by their fans. They never gave up, unlike the Italians who stood like stunned sheep as the AB's walked all over them. The 'Portagees' left the stadium with their heads held high. They faced the mighty All Blacks and played full on until the final whistle. Well done.

Trying to finish my last semester of law school and I am swamped with work. Postings will intermittent until after finals. I'll be back though. Check out the excellent folks named right in the meantime.
Meanwhile:
Europe-grow some balls.
Al Gore-you bloated hypocrite, I saw you on that antique fuel-sucking Learjet.
Nanny Helen-just call the bloody election and get it over with.
Osama-mate, you look like Rasputin with a bad hangover. Must be that diet of rats.
Britney-you looked like a dancing pig.
Ron Paul-go home, OK?
Portuguese Rugby Team-sucks to be you. Give the haka some respect and maybe we'll keep it in double digits.
Brit Rugby Team-if you think the Yanks spear-tackle, wait until you're looking Jerry Collins straight in the jockstrap.

"Your ideas are absurd"
I take it back about Tony Blair. Here he is. A little earlier would have been nice, but I'll take what I can get.
The reason we are finding it hard to win this battle is that we're not actually fighting it properly. We're not actually standing up to these people and saying, "It's not just your methods that are wrong, your ideas are absurd. Nobody is oppressing you. Your sense of grievance isn't justified."'

Ken Livingstone Begins to Understand.
The headline reads, "London Mayor defends Muslims as bomb plot foiled." This might lead the innocent reader into believing that the Mayor had delivered yet another clueless, PC, apologia for Islam. In this instance though, Livingstone offers only a pro forma plea for understanding, and then goes on to say what George Bush, Tony Blair and Gordon Brown will not. The root of the problem is Saudi Arabia and its relentless funding of Wahabi death cult cells around the world. The sooner Britain, Europe, America and the Muslim countries of SE Asia wrap this package up and return to sender in Riyadh, the better. The two poles of Islamic fascism are Saudi Arabia and Pakistan where the shock troops are financed and trained. Perhaps deporting a few thousand homicidal maniacs back to the homeland would send a better message than either Foreign Office sweetness and light or large exploding objects.

"Allah, Allah!"
The NYT is not known for even attempting the truth much these days, but is it too much expect that the "Newspaper of Record" at least acknowledge the bleeding obvious?
Man wearing suicide belt leaps from burning car and struggles with the police while shouting "Allah, Allah." "Hmmm", say the brilliant reporters of the Times, "What do we have here?" Radical vegans? Oppressed Wiccans? Wait, maybe they're M-M-M-M-Muslims?
Nope, as it turns out, what we have here are just two more members of Britain's "South Asian" population struggling because they're "disenfranchised". Glad we cleared that up.

Will Gordon Brown Be Churchill or Chamberlain?
Britain's Islamofascists have welcomed Gordon Brown to Number 10 with a right kick in the balls and a spit in the eye as well. Two large carbombs in London, mercifully discovered and disarmed, and a firebombing at Glasgow airport. And what's missing from the MSM reporting? Any suggestion whatsoever that the obvious suspects could be responsible. "Everything is on the table" said the Independent. Yep, could be the Irish, animal rights activists, fox hunters, disgruntled Anglicans, anti-monarchists. Why, it could have been YOU, citizen. Bollocks.
Two "Asian" men are in custody in Glasgow. I'll wager large sums that they're not Korean, Japanese or Sri Lankan. I'll wager still larger sums that they're not Hindu, Christian, Buddhist, or Zoroastrian. I'll wager pretty much everything I've got or hope to have that one or both has some variant of the word "Mohammed" in their name.

Rudy Gets It.
A few politicians actually get it. In truth, I suspect a lot of them do, but they're too PC, or morally obtuse, or just plain scared to say what they know to be true. John Howard gets it, Helen Clark doesn't. Nicolas Sarkozy gets it, Luis Zapatero doesn't.
And Rudy Guliani gets it. Here he is, courtesy of the NRO.
Exactly. Now imaging Billary or Odumbo saying that.

Did they think it wouldn’t be p.c.? Did they think it would be insulting? When you say ‘Islamic terrorists,’ the only people you’re insulting are … Islamic terrorists. And, really, we don’t care if we insult them.”

There, I said it.
I've supported GW Bush over the last several years because I believe both John Kerry and Al Gore are bloviating non-entities. I still think that, and I think the country would be worse off if either of them had been elected. I've put up with a lot of insults, derision and general anti-Yank sentiment in my new home because of my support for the president. I supported Bush while holding down my bile over his Nixonite domestic policy and his incessant ass kissing of his worst enemies because of one thing--there's an existential threat to civilization in the form of the latest variant of fascism. There's a war on, and I trusted him to get the job done. Instead, he's let himself get tied in knots by politcal correctness, less-than-half measures, inconsistency and an inexplicable willingness to let the incompetents at State and CIA run this war.
In other words, you've lost me, Mr. President and if you've lost me, I hate to think how many others are gone. You, sir, have proven yourself a knave and a fool, and I sincerely regret my support for you. If there is one consolation, and it would be a weak one, it's that the alternatives were worse,

It's Not Nice to Fool the Judge
Judges aren't known for for their sense of humour, and the one who sentenced Parisite to to the cooler obviously intended her to stay there. Back she goes, screaming for Mommy. One can only hope that he's also issued an order forbidding her to profit from her little stay by selling the story to the media. I wonder how much the sheriff got paid. Somebody ought to have a close look at his bank account.

There's a First Time for Everything
It's safe to say that Al Sharpton and I don't agree about much. But he's square on with this. It sound's so Leninist that I hate to say it, but this woman is truly a parasite. Paris Hilton is the mirror image of OJ Simpson. It's not about race, it's about money and if you have enough money in America, the law doesn't apply to you. Does anybody believe that a poor person with a DUI who showed up late for court wouldn't be staring at a cell wall for at least 30 days? This vicious, parasitical hag is laughing at you.

France Gets Real.
For those who mistook the French media and the left commentariat for the French people, the election of Nicholas Sarkozy is one of those surprises that periodically break upon the unobservant. Let those who mistake the views of the biacoastal American media for the views of Americans consider themselves warned.
Never mind that on an American political spectrum, Sarkozy would be slightly left of center. The point to grab here is, as Fred Thompson points out in the National Review, that French voters went to the polls under an unambiguous threat of violence by Islamists should they dare to vote for Sarkozy. To which the French gave a collective two-fingered salute and then did the right thing.
This is the latest of several signs that perhaps Europe is awakening from its socialist torpor, its post-modern ennui, and facing the existential threat represented by Islamist ideology. Denmark, the Netherlands, and now France have all had their had their multi-culti dreams rudely shattered by the cold reality of Islamist violence. Perhaps it isn't too late. After all, this is the nation of Charles Martel.

Not all MP's are flaming idiots, but this one is.
Maori Party co-leader Tariana Turia said that while a lot of gangs were involved in bad behaviour, not all of them were criminals.
"I'm not excusing any of the behaviour, it is totally unacceptable, but just like I'm not prepared to say that the police are all rapists I am also not prepared to say that all gangs are criminals."
Nope, some gangs are nice to puppies and old people, never walk on the daffodils, work nights at Starbucks and go to church on Sundays.
A Tui billboard in the making.

The Bloody Streets of Christchurch
Well, another bloody night in Christchurch. A combination of police incompetence and an obsession with softly, softly, gently handling the drunken thugs and psychopaths that own the city at night have led to dead and many injured.
Incompetence is a hard word, so let's look at it. First, the police should have cleared that party at the very first sign that there was underage drinking going on. They'd have had every right to so. Clearly, there were multiple criminal offenses committed before those two girls were murdered...disturbing the peace, obstructing traffic, drink driving, supplying alcohol to minors, assaulting police officers, unlawful assembly, at least. Anyone of these would have been enough for the police to clear that party an hour before. But no, they waited until murder was committed.
Second (and it'll be interesting to see whose account is true), the occupants of the house have told the Press that they asked police to disperse the outdoor crowd, having barricaded themselves inside with the invited guests. They also claim that the police then told them to send away the crowd. If this is true, it's outrageous.
Garry Moore can spread all the bullshit that he wants...Christchurch isn't safe after 9:00 PM on weekends and everybody knows it.

Blowhard of the Week
The hyperwealthy blowhard of the week is NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg. The mayor, whose personal net worth is in the near neighborhood of $10 billion, has some dandy ideas for helping the rest of us live righteously green lives. As the New York Post tells us, the Mayor wants the good people of Gotham to pay a $30 a year surcharge on their electric bills, be forced to switch to those expensive, dim, ugly fluorescent bulbs, and bear the cost of building code modifications. As Mayor Orwell puts it, the city will be "expanding programs to manage demand."
If this guy were merely thousands of times wealthier than the rest of us, I might be willing to lend an ear. But the Mayor lives, pretty much alone, in a 5 story 7,000 sq.ft. mansion. He also has houses in Bermuda, Vail and Connecticut when the strains of command get to be too much. Oh, and did I mention the TWO private jets? Look, he made his pile and he has every right to spend it any way he wants...divorce settlements, buying elections, whatever. But when comes to making economic decisions for everyone else, decisions that won't cost him the spare change from the sales tax on his dry cleaning bill, he should just stick his face in the same trough as Prince Charlie and Algore, and STFU.

At last a politician somewhere who'll make the greenies choose between religions. What's it going to be oh green robed ones? Globalwarmenism or Antinuclearism? Good old John Howard. There are really only three choices, Green Ones, either we burn carbon, we split atoms or we turn off the lights.

A whacked out Korean kills 32 people then eats his own lead. The MSM has the predictable response---gun control. This of course begs the usual questions. First, psychopaths don't care about gun control laws. Second, if one of the victims had been armed, the whole affair likely would have ended very differently.

The BBC is Confused (Again).
Some times I think the BBC's site has been secretly hacked by The Onion. Or maybe they're just stupid, or maybe like most of the MSM, the BBC long ago gave up any pretence of professional journalism. Have a look at this story entitled "Confusion Over Iran's Intentions".
Right. There's a confession of complete journalistic incompetence. Iran, daily and in no certain terms, advises the world of its intentions. The confusion results from the refusal to take the mullahs and their squinting tool of a President at the plain meaning of their words.
Here's the Supreme Grand Poobah:""In case the enemies of Iran intend to use force and violence and act illegally, without a doubt the Iranian nation and officials will use all their capabilities to strike the invading enemies."
Now what exactly was confusing about the intentions expressed in that remark?
Here's the BBC:"It was an oddly defiant and hostile tone to strike for a new year speech." Well, no. Actually, that's the voice of sweet reason compared to the usual fire-and-blood. Perhaps the BBC is just indulging in a bit of British understatement.

Iran
What's this about? My own opinion is that when you add Ahmadi-Nejad's cancellation, the developingdust-up with the Brits, and the Iranians' continuous softening up of public opinion since last May for the inevitable withdrawal from the Non Proliferation Treaty and you come to the conclusion that Tehran has already decided that war is inevitable and probably imminent.
"Leaders" (and whacked out millenarian fanatics) like Ahmadi-Nejad don't lightly give up a chance to beard the Great Satan in his own living room. Think Khrushchev with his shoe pounding, Arafat with his pistol, Castro in his fatigues and Chavez with his comedy act.
Things could start going bang in the night very, very soon. This won't end well.

Autumn reruns
I was back over some old posts and found this one. I quite like it and I think it's still true. Those who defend Islamic racism need to consider just how much they personally are prepared to alter their behaviour in order to accomodate Muslim sensibilities.
"As some of my dissembling commentators know perfectly well, I'm not in the least concerned with private behavior. To clarify for the morally clueless: Are you, personally, prepared to give up drinking alcohol, eating pork or keeping a pet dog; if a woman, are you prepared to cover yourself from neck to ankle in public; if you are gay,are you prepared to go WAY back in the closet; or, if unmarried, to give up public displays of affection? Well, are you?
And those are just the things that offend moderate Muslims.
Why is it that people who have insisted on making a human rights issue out of the public display and public acceptance of their lifestyle at all times and in all places regardless of the offense caused are suddenly so reticent when it comes to Islamist sensibilities? Just a coincidence, I'm sure.

Blowhard Fatigue
First Al Gore, now Prince Charlie. It must be the week for hyperwealthy blowhards to tell the rest of us how to be virtuous. I've always known that underneath the liar (invented the Internet, inspired Eric Segal to write Love Story) and the lunatic (remember ALpha Male and Tipper's televised tonsil massage)lay gross hypocrisy.
Prince Charles, product of centuries of careful inbreeding, says why not just ban McDonald's? Very regal of you Chuck, shall we have them drawn and quartered as well?
This all began, at least in its modern, media friendly form with the arch-hypocrite John Lennon. I never liked the idea of some zillionaire stoner with a pink Rolls Royce and a nice piece of Manhattan real estate telling anyone else to "imagine no possessions".

Bush sounds retreat.
It's official. The neo-cons are out and Daddy's realists are in...and we all know what a great job they did..remember the "New World Order". Demoralised by the mid-term elections, the President has allowed himself and the country to get rolled by a sick alliance of cynical realists like Robert Gates and congentital idiots like Nancy Pelosi.
First, he cuts yet another deal with Kim Jong-il (Bouffant Boy really means it this time, then he decides he'll discuss Iraq with Boy Assad and the Mad Mullahs after all. We all know what's going to happen with the surge as well. They'll lay down enough firepower to pacify Baghdad for six months or so, declare mission accomplished, and slink home.
We'll live to regret this...at least those of us who don't get killed in the next wave of 9/11s.

Tariana Turia, Racist or Merely Stupid.
Never the sharpest tool in the shed, Tariana shows that she's either fundamentally racist or has the IQ of a penguin. Calling for limitations on immigration to New Zealand from "traditional sources" such as Canada and England (that would be white people for the subtext challenged), TT said this:
"No, we aren't playing the race card, because we are not talking about Asian immigration."
Nope, no racists in the Maori Party. And just when more than a few socially conservative voters were toying with giving them a party vote. Somehow, I don't think Pita Sharples would have said that.

Iraqi Prostitutes, NZ Sex Workers
TV One aired this CBS news report last night on Iraqi regugee women in Syria forced into prostituion through economic necessity. The report says that turning to prostitution is a "mark of desperation". Just so. Then why isn't it a mark of desperation when New Zealand women stand outside on Manchester Street every night? Why is it a lifestyle choice in Christchurch, but a humanitarian crisis in Damascus? Tim Barnett and all his enablers need to take a deep look inside their rotten souls.

Say goodnight, Joe.
Was that Joe Biden whistling past on his way to political oblivion? No one, and I mean no one, can sink a presidential candidacy faster than Joe Biden. Even pointy hat man David Duke and eco-nut Ralph Nader managed to stay in the race longer than Biden. Here he is on Barack Obama (see link to the Observer story above):
"Mr. Biden is equally skeptical—albeit in a slightly more backhanded way—about Mr. Obama. “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” he said. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”
And I bet he's one of your best friends, too.

Dance, Hillary, Dance.
It's kind of fun watching Hillary dance around as she tries to figure out which the way wind is going to blow on the war. If she goes full tilt angry-left, she risks losing every vote that's more than 50 miles from either coast and not permanently resident on a university campus. If she backs the President, and he cocks up his last chance (something that's at least even money), BO and Edwards will outflank her on the left. If she does the "more in sadness than in anger" routine and starts voting to pull out, and there's another terrorist attack (something which also seems likely), she gets to follow John Kerry down the memory hole. I suppose there's always Option D-be a leader, just tell us what you really think and see if the people will follow you.
That of course would require a very un-Clintonian elevation of principle over ambition.

God Bless Barack Obama.
You gotta love Barack Obama. His initials are BO, his name sounds vaguely Muslim and his last name rhymes with Osama, his ears are a cartoonist's dream, he has less political experience than my cat, he's too black for the rednecks and not black enough for the race hustlers, but by Jove he's going for it. After BO announced his candidacy, Hilary looked like she swallowed something slimy. He can't win, but he can give the Angry Left somewhere to go besides Hil's place. They'll follow him off the cliff just like they followed McGovern and Humphrey and Nader and Gore and Dean and Kerry....

Heads Up, Assad
No need to link to or watch the Saddam snuff film. I looked at the official one...I truly think that he didn't believe until the floor dropped away that they'd really do it.
Cremate him and use his ashes in the butt tray at the cigar bar in the Peninsula.

Swinging Saddam
Saddam to the gallows.
The real utility of stretching the Saddamite neck is the salutary effect that it will hopefully have on Boy Assad and various other jihadist enablers. The lesson for them is that regardless of what chaos and bloodshed may follow, if you provoke us enough, you personally will be on the gibbet. Make no mistake, they're watching.

John Kerry : Idiot.
The Dems must be wishing that John Kerry would just go away or maybe start campaigning for the Republicans. Everytime he issue some lame non-apology, he digs the hole a little deeper, shoves the foot towards his larnyx.
Check outthe "apology":
I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform and I personally apologize to any service member, family memebr or American who was offended."
The problem of course is that that there wasn't any misinterpretation. The plain of meaning of his words could not have been misunderstood, and he didn't imply anything...he said directly that anyone serving in Iraq is there because they're either stupid, uneducated or lazy. Way to go Mr. Nuance.
Kerry's problem is that he lives with one foot in Zillionaireland and the other in 1970.

Bad Options and Worse Ones
North Korea's nuclear weapon leaves civilization with only bad options and worse ones. We've only ourselves to blame: 20 years of feckless American diplomacy, 20 years of Chinese encouragement and acquiesence, have brought us to this point. It's too late for a military solution and far too late for a political one. It is near inevitable that Japan will complete its own nuclear weapons program. South Korea will either follow suit or put its head even further in the sand. Having let Pyongyang build and explode a weapon, our impotence in regard to Tehran or any other third world shithole with an internet connection, two electricians, and a plumber is now obvious.
A least bad option? Call Hu Jintao and tell him that unless he puts the very hard word on Kim and backs it up--now--with action, the the United States will publically announce that it, in the current strategic environment, can no longer in good conscience object to a nuclear armed South Korea, Japan and Taiwan. What could China realistically do? For a start, Beijing could close down all North Korean connected businesses in Macau. NoKo trading and shipping companies in Macau act as Kim's defacto overseas banking and trade arm. The North Korean Embassy in Beijing should be closed. Again NoKo embassies in large part exist as smuggling operations for drugs and counterfeit currency, and Beijing has the biggest one.
Not much, but thanks to the studpidity of three successive American presidents, it's all we've got.

North Korea Tests Nuke?
Matt Drudge is reporting via AP and South Korean media that Bouffaint Boy has lit off a nuclear weapon.
Now what?

Nanny Must Be So Disappointed
Nanny Helen must be bitterly disappointed that after all work pretending that she thinks the UN is worth a rat's ass, they pass her over for Secretary General. I'm sort of bummed about it, too. At least she wouldn't have been a corrupt African quango, an unrepentant Nazi or the loser foreign minister of an Arab dictatorship. Also, if they'd picked Helen, New Zealand would have finally seen the back of her.
Asian Proliferation
If I were Hu Jintao, this would have me more than a little vexed. If North Korea does test a nuclear device, the only rational strategic response for Japan and South Korea is to do the same. On a list of things that China does not want to see in international politics, a nuclear Japan had got to come in at number 2, maybe even tied for first with an independent Taiwan.
From China's point of view North Korea must be like an ugly and unpleasant dog that the kids left behind when they went away to college. It snarls at the postman, barks all night, bites you when you pet it and shits on the carpet, but you just can't quite bring yourself to throw the damn thing into the river.

Didn't Work Then, Won't Work Now.
The Investors Business Daily has this editorial on the departure of arch-scumbag and congenital idiot Mark Foley. The Democrats have covered up, protected and preserved the careers of at least four of their number, including Bill Clinton, in the face of sex scandals as bad as or worse (in the case of Garry Studds) than Foley's. I'm sure this was intended as an October surprise. The benefit to Republicans of course is that they can point to their own condemnation, censure and probable prosecution of Foley in contrast to the Democrats' excusing their own creeps.
It's exactly like the Democrats sudden revelation of W's 30 year old DUI while the Chivas soaked Ted Kennedy remains an elder statesman. After all Ted only killed someone in his own alcoholic haze. Meanwhile Kennedy's degenerate nephew and Democratic Congressman goes racing around Washington soaked to the eyeballs in Scotch and tranquilisers. The voters smell hypocrisy a mile away...didn't work then, won't work now.

Well, I Guess That's It Then.
ViaMatt Drudge, it seems the Senate is now "in play".
Yep, a little more wishful thinking by the NYT, a few more felonies committed by Democrat supporters in the CIA or State, a few more smear jobs on George Allen (Did you ever try to put a deer head in a mailbox?), a few more psychotic episodes from Bill, and that should do it... a permanent Republican majority that is.
The hatchet job that the Wapo and the NYT are trying to pull on Allen is straight out of an old Soviet disinformation handbook. Get someone to make an outrageous statement (or just make it up), plant the story (Questions have emerged about.....), the wire services pick it up (The New York Times reported today that....)
It's sleazy, unprofessional, and so NYT. Welcome to the new Pravda.

Psychocrats
What is it with Democrat ex-Presidents and ex-almost-Presidents and loser candidates going loonier than a zoo after leaving office. As Mark Levin points out in the NRO, Bill Clinton is certifiable. Add to that Al Gore's lunatic rants, Howard Dean's primal screaming, and Jimmy Carter's paranoid fantasies, you get the picture that thorazine should be a big part of the Democrat primary process. The last Democrat to just go away and leave us alone was Lyndon Johnson, although he was about as stable as Macbeth, having taken over from the drug-addled sex addict Kennedy. OK, Nixon was no picture of mental health, but for the most part Republicans are sane to the point of boring.
Break Over.
I've been away and been busy. A lot of idiocy has occurred while I was taking a nap. John McCain turns into bizarre cross betweenNelson Rockefeller and Neville Chamberlain, Islamofascists see no irony at all for wanting to behead the Pope for suggesting that Islam might just have an anger problem, the Israeli government gets suckered by the UN one more time. On the other hand, Billy's little tantrum on Fox, the possibility that Osama may have died in his cave, paralysed, shitting himself and gasping for breath, and ever increasing signs that maybe the West is opening one eye to the new fascism help balance the ledger a little bit.

The UN Does What It Does Best..Nothing.
This would be funny if it weren't so pathetically stupid. The Secretray General, rising to ever more precious heights of obstructionism and hypocrisy says:
"It is not expected to achieve by force what must be realized through negotiation and an internal Lebanese consensus," Annan said in a report to the UN Security Council on implementation of the Aug. 11 resolution calling for an end to the Israeli-Hizbullah conflict."
Thirty years of negotiation has brought us to the point of war. Earth to Kofi:
THE WHOLE ISSUE IS THAT THERE ISN'T AND PRBOBABLY NEVER WILL BE ANY "INTERNAL LEBANESE CONSENSUS."
Security will be achieved by force or it won't be achieved at all.

AP's Evasions
Here's the story from AP on the persons whose assets have been frozen by the bank of England in connection with the plot to commit mass murder in the sky. At the end, AP notesthat "many of the subjects had Muslim names". Of course that's not quite accurate. ALL of them, as in 100 per cent, had Muslim names. All right, there are a few non-Muslims with Muslim names, but I'll wager George Soros' dividend cheque that none of these lads went to mass yesterday. Here's the list: not a Seamus, Billy Bob, Juan or Sven among them. What could possibly be the point in pretending any further that this is not a Muslim problem?

"We are at war with Islamic fascism"
W has uttered the truth at last. There is no war with some amorphous thing called terrorism. There is a war with the murderous proponents of an ideological movement, its state sponsors and its enablers. Islam in these terms is not a religion. It's an expressly political enterprise, an ideology and one that's practiced by an indentifiable group of people who can be located and dealt with as required.
When the names of the arrested are known, the list won't contain any Muellers, Mulligans, McDonalds, Matsumotos, Mas, Munoz's or Moskowitzs. There will be a number of Mohammads. They won't be of of Swedish, Burmese, Korean, Ugandan or Jamaican origin. They will be from Pakistan, Bangladesh or some other country that has Islam as a state ideology.
The next step is to demand that Muslims who want to live and let live disown the fascists among them.

A good question.
As noted first by Cartoon Nazi, there were 29 US senators who voted with the White House on the war. Only one of them is Jewish. Only one of them was particularly singled out by the moonbat left for defeat. Why not any one of the other 28?

Good news, but sad news.
Joe Lieberman's loss in the Connecticut primary and Cynthia McKinney's melt-down in Georgia are both good news. McKinney was barking mad and a racist at that, so good riddance whether a Democrat or a Republican ultimately takes her seat. Lieberman's demolition by the angry left is sign of the Democratic Party's further marginalization. Remember that this is the man who saved Bill Clinton's presidency, and who was deemed worthy to carry the party's banner as a vice-presidential candidate. Now the Democrats' moonbat wing has forced him from the party in what can be fairly described as a purge. As a conservative, I must admit that the spectacle of the party of FDR and John Kennedy turing into the party of wealthy eccentrics like Al Gore and Michael Moore, dimbulbs and dilettantes like John Kerry, Chivas-soaked has-beens like Ted Kennedy, and nutcases like Cindy Sheehan engenders a bit of schadenfreude. But as an American, I find it sad. The Democrats are headed for schism, and the Republicans will be the stronger for it, but politics in America will be the poorer. In a way this reflects the end of a Cold War consensus on national security that perhaps should have ended with the Cold War. Perhaps it will lead to ideological realignment similar to the UK's Tories and New Labour, but the road to a new stability where ideological differences end where existential threats to the nation begin will be a long and unpleasant one.

Gone Troppo in Reuterville
In Reuterville, everything is a sign of global warming. Fromthis article:"SYDNEY (Reuters) - Rare, mother-of-pearl colored clouds caused by extreme weather conditions above Antarctica are a possible indication of global warming, Australian scientists said on Tuesday."
Then later in the same article:
"Nacreous clouds can only form in temperatures lower than minus 80 degrees Celsius (minus 112 Fahrenheit).
Meteorologist Renae Baker said a weather balloon in the vicinity of the clouds in the stratosphere about 20 km (12 miles) above the Earth's surface measured temperatures as low as minus 87 Centigrade (minus 124.6 F).
"That's about as cold as the lowest temperatures ever recorded on the surface of the Earth," Baker, who photographed the clouds, said in a statement.
This is, what's the word, STUPID, even for global warming cultists, even in Reuterville.
